High Five Fridays! #4 – BDNF, The Sweet Defeat, Changing Habits, and Stupid Kids Toys
Posted: Friday December 21, 2018

Every Friday, I send out an exclusive email with the five coolest things I’ve found (or explored) that week. Here is what I found this week. Leave me feedback at the bottom and let me know what you think!

Writing on Thursday this time because I will be heading out to Kimberly, BC to shred some knar powder with a few outstanding gems this weekend! Also this is the Friday before Christmas so MERRY CHRISTMAS to YOU and enjoy the time spent with family and friends! This week I have some “interesting” to say the least kids Christmas gifts, sick music I am jammin to, BDNF, a sweet defeat on sugar, and a motivation video I found about changing habits. Check it out!

Hilarious and disgusting Christmas gifts for kids…

In the past week I happen to come across 2 kids games that are revolting. What ever happened to Battleship or Super Mario? Instead we have “Pimple Pete Game Presented by Dr. Pimple Popper, Explosive Family Game” and the “Flushin’ Frenzy Flying Poops Game“. Either you have to remove pimples from a boys face until you get squirted or you need to plunge a toilet until the poop flys into the air and whichever kid catches it wins. The wierdest part about this is the ammount of sales that these toys have are in the hundreds of thousands!

Favourite songs I’m jammin to…

What I am reading…

I read an intersting article about something called “BDNF”, known as “brain fertilizer”. Apparently it has been shown to have a bigger impact on depression than dopamine and serotonin. BDNF helps the brain to develop new connections, repair failing brain cells, and protect healthy brain cells. Super interesting and I think this is definitely worth digging a little deeper into. Here is the article that I was reading about it…

What I am watching…

I thought this was pretty interesting because of all the information that I have read on how people break and form new habits, Nir Eyal has an entirely different take. It actually makes a lot of sense to me. Let me know what you think…

Sugar Withdrawals

For the past 10 days I have tried my best to remove sugar and carbohydrates from my diet completely. I have not succeeded 100% because they really do put that Sh*t in everything! To give you an example I bought cran-raisins to use for salads and didn’t realize that they are 75% sugar! Oops. The side effects that I have because of it are sharp headaches and flu like symptoms.

I read a few articles on it and from my research it is said to give you mild heroine withdrawal symptoms which is similar to a terrible flu (Not from first hand experience). After a few weeks however the changes in your bio-chemistry are supposed to bring crazy benefits in your energy, mood, and even thought processes. Figured I would use myself as a test dummy and give it a try. Here is the Sweet Defeat article:
